A circular economy is not only a prerequisite for climate neutrality, but also offers economic potential. The funding measure supports municipalities on the path to circularity.

A circular economy is a central building block on the way to sustainable and climate-friendly production of goods. With the "Circular Economy - CircularCities.NRW" funding call, the state of NRW is supporting municipalities in introducing a circular economy. Funding for the circular economy focuses on projects for the reuse and recycling of products and materials, repair and circular or resource-saving business models.

Packages of measures instead of individual solutions

The better different coordinated measures work together, the more successful the climate-neutral transformation of municipalities will be. For this reason, funding for the circular economy focuses in particular on projects that include as many measures as possible. Measures from the following four thematic areas are funded:

  • Innovation projects in the field of the circular economy
  • Investment projects in the field of the circular economy
  • Employment of circular economy officers
  • Activation and awareness-raising measures
  • . and awareness-raising measures

In the current second submission round of the funding competition, innovative projects in the field of reuse and recycling of electronics (waste electrical and electronic equipment) are also eligible for funding as a new funding item for "innovation projects in the field of the circular economy".
